Our Story

Steps from the beach on picturesque Balboa Island, Wilma’s Patio has become a local favorite and a welcome stop for visitors alike.  The unique location on Balboa Island’s main street has a small-town feel and is the perfect place for a family business to grow.  The family has owned and operated Wilma’s over 35 years on the island.  Sheri and Dave now own the business, and with their passion and know how they were able to keep the family business going into the next generation.  This happens in no small part due to the devotion of many long-term employees, both as servers, hosts, and bussers that you see every day, and as cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers that you notice less.  Wilma’s has been very fortunate to have many long-term employees that feel like, and function like a family. Many of our family of employees have been with us since before we moved into our current home here in 1997!

Sheri & Dave Drewry

Sheri and Dave have been with Wilma’s Patio from the start when they helped Wilma and Morey build the business at the first location down the street. By the time the business grew and moved into its’ current location, Sheri had been running the day to day operations of the business for several years already and Dave had moved on to other careers. When the opportunity came along for Sheri and Dave to buy the business, it was no stretch for Sheri to jump into the ownership seat and take the wheel of the business that she had been running for years. Sheri and Dave now work together again as owner-operators, much like it started over 35 years ago when Sheri’s parents first opened Wilma’s Patio in 1982.

Chef Tomas

Wilma’s Patio is fortunate and proud to have Tomas as our head chef since 1991. His style of preparing wholesome meals from fresh and healthy ingredients has been a perfect fit for Wilma’s Patio. Chef Tomas has been cooking since childhood, where his family encouraged him to learn to cook as a part of his upbringing. This life skill became a passion that Tomas has followed his entire career. The foundation of Tomas’ cooking has always been satisfying and wholesome meals, prepared simply, from fresh and healthy ingredients. With a large and varied menu to prepare daily, Tomas does it all – putting a fresh spin on some classic dishes, creating fresh flavors unique to Wilma’s, or recreating the recipes and flavors of his upbringing, all are done with his passion for fresh and wholesome food, flavored with healthy ingredients, and prepared with care.
